Can You Lose Weight With HomeSwimmer?

Posted by HomeSwimmer on

When you are looking to lose weight, some people head for the pool. We know that swimming is one of the best exercises you can do for your body because it works your whole body rather than just specific areas. But according to this article, whether or not it is the best thing to do to lose weight is up for debate. So before you jump in the pool with your stationary swimmer from HomeSwimmer, take a few minutes to read what swimming can do for weight loss.

In 2010, there was a study done in Australia to figure out if swimming was better than walking. This was debated before the study was done buy a personal trainer who said that swimming has some negatives compared to land exercises. In the 2010 study, women were studied for six months that either walked or swam for six months and then were allowed to go the same thing for another six months without being monitored. The study found that swimmers were able to lose more weight and more off their waistlines than the walkers

The article goes on to say that there are a lot of reasons to swim other than weight loss including that it takes a load off your joints and the pool is a cool environment which makes it easier for people to stick with the exercise. The one issue with swimming that the article touches on is that swimming causes your appetite to increase. This means that you are more likely to undo all of the calorie burning you just did. However, you are burning up to 800 calories an hour by swimming. Did you know that swimmer Michael Phelps was said to consume 12,000 calories a day while training for the Olympics?

Ultimately, how much you lose depends on you. As we stated in our last blog, your technique can mean all of the difference when it comes to swimming. If you are performing the strokes poorly, then your body will not want to continue as long or as often. The other thing to keep in mind is that you will want to eat more than normal after swimming. If you watch what you eat and don’t over consume, you will be able to lose weight with your stationary swimming system. Pick yours up today.
